Thinstuff XP/VS Terminal Server for Windows

Turn Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Small Business Server 2003/2008, Windows Server 2003/2008/2008 R2 or Foundation Server 2008 R2 into a full-blown Terminal Server!

Installing the XP/VS Terminal Server software enables Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Small Business Server 2003/2008, Server 2003/2008/2008 R2 and Foundation Server 2008 R2 to host an unlimited number of concurrent Remote Desktop Sessions by using the defacto standard Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).

This allows any Remote Desktop Protocol version 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 6.0, 6.1 and 7.0 enabled client device to connect to your host to run full Windows Desktop Sessions or just selcted Windows applications remotely over any network connection (LAN, WAN, VPN, WLAN, Internet, etc.)

Such RDP enabled client devices are e.g. Windows PCs with the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client, Linux PCs with rdesktop, Thin Clients, Handhelds, Notebooks, Netbooks, Tablet PCs, Mobile Phones etc.

Cost savings in your IT infrastructure

Deployment of Thinstuff´s XP/VS Terminal Server enables cost savings in licensing, hardware, service and support:

  • A big cost saving potential in licensing because XP/VS Server is very cost effective compared to most other Server Based Computing (SBC) solutions and even more cost effective compared with traditional client/server installations

  • A big cost saving potential on hardware because you can use cost effective Thin Clients instead of full Windows PCs on the client side

  • A big cost saving potential in service and support because you can cetralise application and user management on the server side instead of maintaining many individual client PCs

XP/VS Terminal Server basic features:

  • Shadowing: Mirroring of RDP sessions for support purposes

  • Cplipboard redirection: Redirection of clipboard content between the RDP session and the client

  • Disk- and Printer- redirection: Redirection of Client attached printers and disk drives (not on Vista Home operating systems)

  • Sound redirection (audio downstream): Redirection of sound output from the XP/VS Server to the RDP client computer (not on Vista Home operating systems)

  • COM port redirection: Redirection of client COM ports to the XP/VS Server (not on Vista Home operating systems)

  • LPT port redirection: Redirection of client LPT ports to the XP/VS Server (not on Vista Home operating systems)

XP/VS Terminal Server advanced features:

  • Enhanced Application Compatibility: Compatibility Mode for older applications which are not Terminal Server enabled (e.g. change user /install, ini file mapping, registry mapping, etc.)

  • Domain Authentication: Authentication of Terminal Server users in a Windows Domain

  • TSX USB: Thinstuff´s TSX USB is a revolutionary software solution that enables access to any client attached USB devices remotely over network just as if you would have plugged them in directly to the XP/VS Terminal Server computer

  • TSX Session Broker - Load Balancing: Based on server load values incoming RDP sessions are automatically assigned to individual servers in multiple server environments

New features on Windows 7 x86/x64 (ALL Editions, including Windows 7 Starter!) and Windows Server 2008 R2 x86/x64 (also without Remote Desktop Session Host role):

  • TS RemoteApp: Starting with Windows Server 2008 Microsoft included Terminal Services RemoteApp (TS RemoteApp). RemoteApp programs are programs that are accessed remotely through RDP and display seamlessly. These applications appear as if they are directly running on the user's workstation. Thus instead of displaying the complete remote Desktop only the specified RemoteApp program is visible and integrated with the user's local desktop, running in its own resizable window with its own entry in the taskbar.

  • Media Player (Video) redirection

  • Audio Upstream (microphone support over RDP)

  • TS Easy Print (Client side printer driver support)

  • True Multimonitor support (Applications behave in RDP sessions spanning over multiple monitors the same as locally)

  • Aero Support (Support of 3D effects and transparency over RDP - not on Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic)

New features on Windows Server 2008 (also without Remote Desktop Session Host role):

  • TS RemoteApp: Starting with Windows Server 2008 Microsoft included Terminal Services RemoteApp (TS RemoteApp). RemoteApp programs are programs that are accessed remotely through RDP and display seamlessly. These applications appear as if they are directly running on the user's workstation. • TS Easy Print (Client side printer driver support)

XP/VS Terminal Server advanced features currently under development:

Most of the following features which are currently under development will be fully compatible with Microsoft RDP 6.0, 6.1 and 7.0 clients and therefore do not require any additional client software:

  • TSX Application Control: Access to specific applications can be restricted to designated groups or users

  • TSX RemoteApp - (Seamless Windows): TSX RemoteApp allows publishing of single applications seamlessly instead of publishing a complete desktop session. Aplications published with TSX RemoteApp appear on the client desktop as if they were local.

  • TSX Gateway - RDP over HTTPS: Encrypted transmission of the RDP protocol through SSL secured HTTPS connections on port 443 over the internet

  • TSX Web Access - Web Portal: Access to published applications through a web portal
